1 cup pearl barley

4 cups water or milk (or a blend of both for creaminess)

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Fresh fruits (e.g., banana, berries, or apples) for topping

Nuts and seeds (e.g., almonds, walnuts, or chia seeds) for garnish

Instructions
 

Rinse the pearl barley under cold water to remove any debris. This step helps enhance its flavor and texture.

    In a large saucepan, combine the rinsed barley, water or milk, and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.

      Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally, until the barley is tender and creamy. If you prefer a runnier texture, feel free to add more water or milk during cooking.

        Once cooked, stir in the honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

          Remove from heat and let the porridge sit for a few minutes to thicken further, if desired.

            To serve, ladle the porridge into bowls and top with your favorite fruits, nuts, and seeds. Optionally, drizzle with more honey or a sprinkle of cinnamon for additional flavor.
