Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 cups fresh broccoli florets

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 inch ginger, grated

1/2 cup beef broth

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooked jasmine rice, for serving

Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to tenderize.

Prepare the Broccoli: While the beef marinates, bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and blanch for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and immediately plunge them into an ice bath to stop the cooking. Set aside.

Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, beef broth, and sesame oil. Set aside.

Stir-Fry the Beef: In a large wok or skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef in batches (don’t overcrowd the pan) and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Sauté Garlic and Ginger: In the same wok, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger; sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Combine Ingredients: Return the stir-fried beef to the wok along with the blanched broccoli. Pour the sauce over the mixture and toss everything together until well-coated and heated through, about 2 minutes.

Serve: Serve the beef and broccoli hot over steamed jasmine rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired.
