Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut into cubes

6 large eggs

1 ½ cups whole milk

¾ cup heavy cream

¾ cup brown sugar, packed

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup crushed pineapple, drained

½ cup shredded coconut (optional)

½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Powdered sugar, for serving

Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Prepare Bread: In a large mixing bowl, combine the Sweet Hawaiian roll cubes, crushed pineapple, and optional coconut and nuts. Toss gently to mix.

Make Custard: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Combine: Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and gently fold to coat all pieces evenly. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes so the bread absorbs the custard.

Bake: Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Allow the French toast bake to cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
